Overall, I think the GTX 580 is a nice card and I'll probably keep mine. Did some testing with Starcraft 2 and it runs much better, especially with AA on, which was unplayable on my ATI setup. Games seem smoother overall with less jumpy framerates (particularly F1 2010). The GTX 580 idles at 42C and peaks at around 86C (and that's only 1 GPU, 4870X2 were 4 at those temps) with the case closed. I have 2 Sapphire 4870x2s Crossfired on my Gigabyte UD5 MOBO, Core i7, 1000watt silverstone psu single rail. For example, my 4870X2s would idle at around 70C with the case open, and peak at around 90C. But, the card is much quieter and runs A LOT cooler. Don't think it's worth the money from that standpoint. Overall, in some games the performance advantage is negligible whereas in others it is significant. Rise of Flight = ATI: 40.7 Nvidia: 57.6.Company of Heroes = ATI: 57.5 Nvidia: 59.1 though all ok when i play with one 4870x2( anyone of two cards), but when i set both two 4870x2 cards to make CrossfireX, the system cant.Anyway, I ran some benchmarks on my aging for comparison with the quad-GPU setup I had before (tests run twice, average displayed): I could've waited for the 6900 series but I really wanted to see what the green camp had to offer for a change, I may still get the ATI card if it proves significantly better and just as silent as the GTX 580. Decided to switch sides after using ATI products for nearly 10 years, ever since Radeon 8500. I was a little tired of the noise and power consumption of my ATI 4870X2 Crossfire setup (mind you, I got one of the cards as "defective" from a friend, worked fine in my system), plus the fact I had to run the case open, otherwise the heat and noise was unbearable.
